Ripple CTO's XRPL Hub Quietly Hits 500+ Peers — And He Has No Idea Why 🤷‍♂️

Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz said his private XRP Ledger hub has stabilized sharply over the past two weeks, with active peer connections climbing back above 500 to roughly 501, near a two-week high of 509, though he cannot pinpoint the reason. Posting on X on September 17, Schwartz noted "fewer peer disconnects" during the stretch and attached charts showing the recovery, adding that a brief dip around September 15–16 was a monitoring glitch rather than an actual connection drop.

The unexplained improvement coincides with the rollout of XRP Ledger 3.4.0, a peer-protection update designed to harden network connections against disruptions. Schwartz stopped short of attributing the hub's rebound to the upgrade, saying only that it "may be a factor," and added a self-aware quip that someone might be sending "meaningless inbound stable connections" just to make him feel better about the network.

The hub functions as an informal health signal for XRPL operators rather than a market catalyst for the token itself. Spot XRP exchange-traded funds have drawn roughly $1.7 billion in net inflows to date, yet the token has lagged broader crypto market moves during the same period, underscoring that infrastructure resilience and price action are tracking separately.

Schwartz's open acknowledgment of the unknown cause highlights how even senior protocol architects rely on observed behavior rather than full diagnostics when judging peer-network conditions. The XRP Ledger 3.4.0 release remains the most prominent candidate explanation as hubs across the network continue to be monitored for sustained connection stability.
