Ripple Teaches Robots to Swipe XRP Without Bugging Humans 🤖
Ripple has rolled out version 1.1 of its XRPL AI Starter Kit, adding support for the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP), a standard co-authored by Stripe and Tempo that lets software agents pay for services without a checkout flow. The update also adds Open Wallet Standard support, giving developers a common interface for managing wallets across multiple blockchains. With the new kit, developers can build AI agents that pay for data, computing, and other online services using XRP or RLUSD, Ripple's dollar-pegged stablecoin.
The software remains in beta, and Ripple's announcement names no commercial customers using the new MPP integration and discloses no payment volume for it. MPP operates through a straightforward loop: a service responds to an agent's request with a price, the agent authorizes payment, and the service delivers the requested resource. No human approves a checkout screen; the transaction is folded into the agent's workflow. Payments stream over native Payment Channels and settle in one transaction with deterministic finality.
The XRP Ledger Foundation announced the integration on September 16, 2026, noting that the XRPL is now a supported chain in the Open Wallet Standard and a settlement option in Stripe and Tempo's Machine Payments Protocol. The starter kit update positions Ripple as a payment-rail option for agent-to-agent commerce at a stage when commercial adoption has yet to be demonstrated. Ripple's own social posts describe the integration as enabling "deterministic finality" and "predictable" settlement for machine-initiated payments.
