Commodity Status Granted, Now XRP Just Needs the Other $28.70 🪙

XRP traded at $1.30 as Ripple pursues a $10 million expansion of its corporate payments back end through the Velocity membership program. The company, which has spent years arguing that the digital asset should be treated as a commodity rather than a security, has continued to build institutional payment infrastructure alongside the regulatory campaign. Ripple joined the corporate payments network Velocity and targeted the back end of enterprise payment flows with the $10 million extension, a move the company framed as part of its broader strategy to position XRP within mainstream financial plumbing.

The classification push has become a focal point for analysts tracking the asset, with some projecting that a commodity designation could open the door to substantially higher valuations. Long-horizon XRP price prediction models circulated in industry coverage have referenced figures as high as $30 per token if regulators formally classify XRP as a commodity. Those projections sit well above current spot levels and would imply a roughly 23-fold increase from the $1.30 reference price cited in recent reporting. The projections have appeared in third-party analysis pieces rather than in any official statement from Ripple or its executives.

Ripple has not publicly endorsed or commented on the specific $30 target. The company has, however, continued to invest in payment-rail integrations as it awaits regulatory clarity in the United States. The Velocity extension adds to a series of enterprise partnerships Ripple has signed in recent quarters as it builds out its corporate treasury and cross-border settlement products.

Market participants continue to monitor the classification question as a key catalyst for any repricing of XRP. A commodity designation would place XRP within a regulatory framework currently applied to assets such as bitcoin, which is traded under the $BTC ticker, and ether, traded under $ETH, rather than under securities law. Until any such designation is formalized, XRP's price will continue to reflect the ongoing legal and regulatory uncertainty that has defined Ripple's relationship with U.S. authorities since the Securities and Exchange Commission's 2020 complaint.

Coverage of Ripple's regulatory positioning has been accompanied by separate industry reporting on competing Layer-1 networks, including Solana, where transaction infrastructure upgrades have continued even as the SOL price has lagged recent activity on the chain. None of that reporting changes the underlying XRP setup, which remains defined by the unresolved commodity-versus-security question and the gap between today's $1.30 price and the long-shot $30 projections cited by outside analysts.
