Another Layer-1 Swipes Right on Ethereum, but ETH Price Just Stands There 😐
The Sui Network Foundation has formally proposed making Sui a Layer-2 network built on Ethereum, submitting the framework to the Sui community for review. The foundation framed the proposal as a way to deepen Sui's ties to Ethereum's liquidity and developer base, while preserving Sui's high-throughput execution environment. If approved by Sui validators, the network would shift from operating as an independent Layer-1 chain to functioning as an Ethereum-aligned Layer-2 while retaining its native token and infrastructure.
Ethereum's price has shown little reaction to the news, holding near recent ranges as broader crypto markets consolidated. Traders cited the proposal as a sign of continued convergence between competing smart-contract platforms rather than a catalyst for immediate price movement. $ETH continued to trade alongside major digital assets without a clear directional bias in the session following the announcement.
Sui Network leaders said the Layer-2 framework would rely on Ethereum for settlement and security while Sui maintained its own execution layer. The foundation has published a draft governance plan and technical specification for community input, with voting expected to follow a multi-stage review process. The proposal also outlines a roadmap for cross-chain bridging and shared sequencing between the two networks.
The move comes amid a broader trend of Layer-1 ecosystems exploring closer integration with Ethereum's base layer to access its established user base and liquidity. Several competing chains have announced similar bridging or rollup strategies in recent quarters as activity migrates toward modular blockchain designs. Industry participants said the Sui proposal would be among the most significant Layer-1-to-Layer-2 transitions proposed to date.
Neither the Sui Network Foundation nor the Ethereum Foundation has indicated any change to the standalone $ETH token or Ethereum's core protocol as a result of the proposal. The framework remains subject to Sui community feedback and validator approval before any technical implementation begins, with the foundation noting that timelines will depend on the outcome of governance votes and further engineering review.
