Stablecoins now account for roughly 80% of processed volume at SCRYPT, the Swiss-licensed digital asset platform serving as the institutional gateway for The Open Network (TON), according to Founder and CEO Norman Wooding. The figure marks a significant year-on-year increase and reflects a broader shift in how corporates and financial institutions approach on-chain settlement, with Telegram acting as the network's largest validator and a user base approaching one billion.

Wooding identified 2023 as the inflection point at which traditional finance began treating on-chain infrastructure as viable. "If I had to pinpoint it, I would say 2023 is really when the shift happened and when the larger incumbents looked at the crypto industry and said, 'Hey, I think they might've figured something out here," he said in an interview with BeInCrypto. He characterized the build-up as gradual rather than speculative, noting that the utility has outlasted several market cycles.

The case for stablecoin rails, Wooding argued, rests on speed and cost relative to correspondent banking. He described a standard UK-to-Brazil wire as a fragmented process in which intermediaries set opaque fees, apply undisclosed FX margins, and impose processing delays: "You get FX fees, you get transaction fees, you get payment fees, you get probably commission fees." Against that benchmark, he framed stablecoin settlement as a measurable improvement. "I can move a hundred million in five seconds at a fraction of the cost it would take me in traditional markets," Wooding said. "Stablecoins allow you to move your money. A little bit more sovereignty, quicker, more efficient, transparent, auditable, immutable, all the benefits of the blockchain in front of you in five seconds."

SCRYPT's selection as TON's institutional gateway targets corporate and bank treasuries that require a regulated on-ramp and off-ramp, segments that retail peer-to-peer payments within Telegram do not natively serve. Wooding described demand drivers spanning corporate treasury optimization, cross-border remittances, and settlement between counterparties that previously relied on legacy wires. The platform's reported 80% stablecoin share of processed volume indicates that institutional flow has concentrated in dollar-pegged tokens rather than volatile assets such as $BTC or $ETH.

Wooding's framing positions stablecoins as settlement infrastructure rather than a trading narrative, distinguishing them from the corporate treasury Bitcoin purchases that have drawn headline attention in prior quarters. He added that residual hype around the use case has diminished as adoption metrics have accumulated. The underlying technical premise, he concluded, remains the comparison between a multi-step, fee-laden wire process and a single on-chain transfer executed in seconds at a fraction of the cost.
