Most Americans Side-Eye the President's Crypto Bag: Poll 📊

—By our Regulation & Policy Desk2 min read

A Reuters/Ipsos poll of 1,166 people conducted Aug. 14-17 found that 63% of U.S. respondents considered it "not appropriate" for President Donald Trump and his family to earn money from cryptocurrency investments while in office. The survey revealed a sharp partisan divide, with 69% of Republicans polled saying such earnings were appropriate and 92% of Democrats responding that they were not.

The findings follow a June disclosure from the U.S. Office of Government Ethics reporting that Trump earned $1.4 billion from investments related to crypto in 2025, including through his family's World Liberty Financial company and the Official Trump (TRUMP) memecoin. White House spokesperson Anna Kelly has repeatedly told outlets requesting comment that there were "no conflicts of interest."

Lawmakers have called for investigations and additional information from government agencies regarding World Liberty Financial and other Trump family crypto holdings. In July, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer introduced legislation to create a federal agency focused on addressing government corruption, singling out the president's "various, and extremely lucrative, cryptocurrency ventures."

On Wednesday, Trump addressed crypto at a White House press conference attended by C-suite executives and industry leaders. The president and participants urged Senate lawmakers to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a bill that would establish defined roles for U.S. regulatory agencies in overseeing digital assets. The legislation is scheduled for a cloture vote on Sept. 15.
