Injective checks in as SEC transfer agent — because even RWAs need a hall monitor 📋
Injective Institutional Services, an entity affiliated with the Injective blockchain ecosystem, confirmed Wednesday that its registration with the US Securities and Exchange Commission as a transfer agent is now effective, adding a regulated securities recordkeeping function to the network's tokenization infrastructure. The registration allows the affiliate to maintain securities ownership records and process ownership changes, a function central to traditional US securities markets that the company says can extend to tokenized real-world assets. Injective Institutional Services filed its application to register as a transfer agent with the SEC in July, as previously reported by Cointelegraph.
The company plans to pair the transfer agent function with Injective Mint, its platform for issuing and managing tokenized assets. Injective said the combination is intended to bridge blockchain-native ownership records with the administrative processes used in conventional securities settlement. Transfer agents sit within the regulated infrastructure underpinning US securities markets, keeping ledgers of who holds each security and updating those records when ownership changes, a step that becomes particularly relevant when securities are issued or transferred onchain.
The registration follows Injective's expansion of its tokenization efforts in recent months, including markets offering exposure to digital asset treasury companies, equities and shares in pre-IPO companies. The affiliate's new status formalizes a role Injective has been building toward as it courts institutions seeking compliant entry points into onchain assets.
Market reaction was immediate: the $INJ token rallied nearly 9% following the announcement, according to CoinGape. The move came amid a broader wave of US-focused regulatory developments affecting digital asset firms, though Injective's statement did not tie the price action to any specific policy change beyond its own registration.
