Ethena and FalconX Unleash a $1B Collateral Carousel for USDe's Backing 🌀

—By our DeFi Desk2 min read

Ethena and FalconX have jointly launched a $1 billion secured lending facility that will deploy assets backing the synthetic dollar USDe into overcollateralized loans for institutional borrowers. FalconX will operate the structure through a special purpose vehicle, handling loan origination, servicing and collateral management, while qualified third-party custodians will hold the pledged assets.

Under the terms announced by both firms, borrowers must post collateral worth more than the value of their outstanding loans. Ethena will hold a first-priority security interest over assets held within the facility, and institutions can use the financing for trading, corporate treasury management and payment services. The companies stated that they plan to scale the arrangement as borrowing demand develops.

For Ethena, the facility adds secured institutional lending to the strategies already used to generate returns from USDe-related reserves, which historically have relied on crypto basis trades and perpetual futures funding. FalconX framed the deal as an expansion of its credit infrastructure tied to digital assets.

The launch comes as Ethena continues building out the operational stack behind USDe, a synthetic dollar that tracks the value of the U.S. dollar through derivatives positions and onchain collateral. Neither company disclosed the interest rates, maturity terms or counterparty types targeted under the facility, and both said additional details would be released as loans are originated. The facility's $1 billion size marks one of the largest disclosed institutional credit lines tied to a synthetic stablecoin to date.
