Sleepy Bitcoin Whale From 2011 Finally Cashes In Its 634,347% Nap 📈

A Bitcoin address dormant since July 16, 2011 reactivated on August 6, 2026, sweeping its full balance of 49.97 $BTC to a new address in a single transaction at 20:14 UTC, according to Galaxy Research. The wallet, beginning in "1EBz," originally acquired the coins when $BTC traded under $15, at a cost of roughly $500. Valued near $65,000 per coin at the time of the move, the position is worth approximately $3.23 million, representing a gain of 634,347%. Galaxy Research's post on X identified the address as 1EBzWeno4frVz5hKp3LvVRpN84cpfJzYjL and noted the transaction occurred in block 961331.

The destination wallet subsequently forwarded funds to an address labeled as belonging to FalconX, a digital asset prime broker serving trading firms and institutions, per Arkham Intelligence data. The routing through FalconX-labeled infrastructure does not confirm a sale, though it points to professional custody or trading channels rather than a retail exchange. As of Friday, the $BTC remained in the receiving address.

Dormant $BTC whale movements have become a recurring theme. In 2023, a Satoshi-era whale moved $11 million after roughly 12 years of inactivity, and in 2024, approximately 50,000 $BTC worth about $2 billion shifted after sitting since 2013, with analysts attributing that movement to exchange or custodian rebalancing. $BTC whales moved billions across multiple transactions during 2025, with destinations frequently pointing to institutional infrastructure rather than private liquidation.

Analysts often measure such movements using Coin Days Destroyed, also called Satoshi Days, which accumulate one day of age per coin for each day it remains unmoved. A single transfer from a 2011 wallet erases more than 5,400 days per coin, producing a large score that signals an old balance changing hands, without indicating the holder's intent. The 1EBz wallet's reactivation fits that pattern, with Galaxy Research noting no attribution for the movement.

Physical attacks targeting cryptocurrency holders are on pace for their worst year on record, with more than $30 million stolen during 2026 so far, underscoring the security considerations that can drive long-dormant holders to relocate funds.
