Bitget Books a Retreat to Bhutan's Mindfulness City — Enlightenment Now Available With Leverage 🧘

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget has signed a cooperation agreement with the Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority (GMCA) to expand its operations into Bhutan's planned Special Administrative Region, the company announced. Under the deal, Bitget will move toward establishing a legal entity inside Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) and pursue a Financial Services Licence through the Gelephu Financial Services Office (GFSO).

The agreement covers joint work on operational, compliance and ecosystem development initiatives, all subject to regulatory approval from GFSO and other competent authorities. Bitget said the partnership is intended to support the development of a regulated digital-asset industry inside the S.A.R. as GMC moves from planning stages to operational rollout.

"Bhutan is approaching digital assets with a rare mix of long-term thinking, clean-energy advantage and regulatory clarity," said Gracy Chen, CEO at Bitget. Chen added, "GMC is the emerging hotbed for digital finance, and Bitget looks forward to contributing exchange experience, infrastructure knowledge and local talent development as this ecosystem grows."

Bhutan has positioned itself as a destination for environmentally sustainable digital-asset activity, citing abundant hydropower resources that power cryptocurrency mining operations within the country. The Gelephu Mindfulness City project, which includes the dedicated financial-services regulator GFSO, is part of that broader national strategy aimed at attracting compliant crypto and fintech firms to the zone.

The terms of the cooperation agreement, along with the timeline for licence consideration by GFSO, have not been publicly disclosed. Bitget said further details on its local presence, staffing and product offerings inside GMC will be announced once regulatory milestones are reached.
