Strategy's Price Targets Get the Maxim Treatment: MSTR Cut to $215, Analysts Still Cheerleading 📉🤡
Wall Street investment bank Maxim Group has trimmed its price target on Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) to $215 from $250, retaining its Buy rating on the Bitcoin treasury company. The cut follows Strategy's recent Bitcoin sales, which have drawn heightened scrutiny from market participants. MSTR closed Wednesday at $98.37, up $0.72 or 0.74% on the session.
The revised Maxim target still implies roughly 120% upside from current levels, even as a growing cluster of brokerages dialed back their forecasts amid softer Bitcoin price expectations and Strategy's departure from its long-held "never sell" posture. Cantor Fitzgerald lowered its MSTR price target to $186 and trimmed its Bitcoin forecast, now projecting $98,000 rather than a previous $111,000 call by August 2027. Separately, B. Riley cut its MSTR stock target from $215 to $155 and scaled down its Bitcoin forecast from $81,500.
The wave of reductions reflects mounting caution as Bitcoin treasury companies face renewed questions about their accumulation-and-disposal playbooks. Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, remains the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin and a bellwether for how public markets value direct crypto exposure on balance sheets. The shift in analyst sentiment marks one of the more visible recalibrations for the sector in recent quarters.
Beyond the MSTR-specific moves, the broader Street commentary has leaned defensive, with firms citing Bitcoin's price trajectory and the optics of issuer sales as key inputs into their models. Maxim's Buy reiteration, paired with its lower target, underscores the gap between directional conviction and valuation math now typical across the coverage universe.
The analyst actions were highlighted on social media by BitcoinTreasuries.NET, which posted on August 5, 2026 that the Maxim revision still leaves a triple-digit upside path on the stock, a reminder that Wall Street's bear cases on MSTR remain, by their own math, exceptionally bullish on paper.
