Bitcoin Presses Its Long-Term Ceiling While Zcash Stages a Sell-the-News Encore ðŸŽ
Bitcoin traded in a $63,820–$64,706 range this week and was priced at $64,656, up 0.94%, as the largest cryptocurrency pushed against its 200-day exponential moving average near $66,500. The longer-term average has capped every recovery attempt since a death cross formed months ago, and the 50-day EMA near $64,200 remains below it, keeping the medium-term trajectory pointed down. Bitcoin is currently above its 50-day EMA and below the 200-day EMA, a short-term rebound testing long-term resistance. Momentum indicators offer little conviction: the Relative Strength Index reads 53.5, just above the neutral 50 line, while the Average Directional Index prints 14.2, a sub-24 reading that signals no confirmed trend. The Squeeze Momentum indicator is on, and such consolidations have historically resolved in the direction of the prior trend more often than they have reversed. Bitcoin peaked near $80,000 in May, fell through June to a low near $56,000, and has since stabilized in a $60,000–$67,000 corridor through July and early August. Resistance sits at the 200-day EMA near $66,500, followed by the recent leg high at $66,921; bulls need a daily close back above that zone to shift the structure.
The week's tape was shaped in part by external jitters. CNBC's Jim Cramer said he is selling his Bitcoin over quantum-computing fears, and a separate $130 million Coldcard wallet exploit disclosed late last week added a custody scare. On the macro side, the Federal Reserve held rates at 3.5%–3.75%, leaving risk assets in a wait-and-see stance.
Zcash, the privacy coin co-created by Edward Snowden and trading as ZEC, moved on protocol news rather than sentiment. Its Ironwood network upgrade, NU6.3, activated on mainnet on July 28 at block 3,428,143, reworking the network's privacy backbone and patching an AI-discovered vulnerability previously flagged in the code. ZEC dipped on the activation in a sell-the-news move before buyers returned, posting a 2.95% gain on Tuesday to keep the recovery narrative intact.
