Thune's To-Do List Keeps Ghosting the CLARITY Act 📜

Senate Majority Leader John Thune did not file a cloture motion on the CLARITY Act during Tuesday's session, leaving the crypto market structure bill without a procedural pathway as the upper chamber prioritized government funding and other measures.

According to the Senate Cloakroom, Thune introduced cloture on the motion to proceed to Calendar No.449, S.4668, the Protect College Sports Act of 2026, along with Executive Calendar No. 914, the nomination of Todd Blanche to be U.S. Attorney General. He also offered cloture on Calendar No. 320, the "Continuing Resolution," H.R. 6500, and the Collins substitute amendment #6732 to the Continuing Resolution bill. The Senate additionally voted on cloture for Executive Calendar No. 910, the nomination of Erica Schwartz to head the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Eleanor Terrett, host of Crypto In America, wrote that "Thune has filed cloture on the motion to proceed to the college sports bill," adding that it "signals there's" a focus on other legislative items. She separately attributed the delay on the CLARITY Act to procedural issues tied to the Continuing Resolution, noting that a filibuster over concerns including ethics rules has left votes uncertain.

The Senate had previously voted 89-4 to prevent a government shutdown ahead of the midterm elections. The community is now awaiting Thune to file cloture on Wednesday to begin the process for a procedural vote on the CLARITY Act.
