Cloudflare Gives AI Agents Wallets, Hopes They Pay Rent On Time 💸

—By our Markets Desk2 min read

Cloudflare unveiled Cloudflare Wallets on Tuesday, a programmable wallet built for artificial intelligence (AI) agents and designed around stablecoin payments. The US cloud infrastructure company announced the product in a blog post, framing it as infrastructure for what it calls "agentic commerce," in which autonomous software agents identify themselves and pay for application programming interfaces (APIs) and digital content through stablecoin micropayments.

Wallet handles are available for users to claim immediately, while payment functionality is set to roll out later, according to the company. Cloudflare said the wallets are intended to let users store stablecoins and receive payments across the web, and will be integrated with its recently announced Monetization Gateway, which uses Coinbase's x402 protocol to enable stablecoin micropayments.

"Stablecoin micropayments via x402 will make it simple to try an API without an account, allowing agents to test new options with little friction," Cloudflare software engineer Will Papper wrote in the blog post. He added that the wallets will also let users store stablecoins and receive payments across the web.

The rollout comes as major payment and technology firms expand their stablecoin offerings. Mastercard completed its $1.8 billion acquisition of BVNK as part of its own stablecoin push, a deal referenced in industry coverage of the announcement. Cointelegraph contacted Cloudflare for comment on the rollout timeline and additional details but had not received a response by publication.
