Rockets & Returns: SpaceX Posts $7.8B Quarter, CFO Says Starship's Sales Pitch Is Just Getting Started 🚀

—By our Markets Desk1 min read

SpaceX reported second-quarter results that exceeded Wall Street expectations, with revenue rising 92% year-over-year to $7.8 billion, though the company still posted a net loss of $541 million, or 9 cents per share, for the period ending June 30. Analysts had projected a wider loss of $1.9 billion, or 23 cents per share.

The earnings landed a day before Elon Musk's inaugural quarterly earnings call following SpaceX's public listing in June. Investors are expected to seek updates on the company's Starship program, Starlink operations, artificial intelligence initiatives and broader growth plans.

SpaceX recorded bottom-line EBITDA of $3.5 billion, up nearly threefold from the prior-year quarter, and ended the period with $100 billion in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities. Its backlog stood at $47.5 billion.

CFO Bret Johnsen credited broad operational gains for the quarter's performance. "2026 has been a momentous year so far, and the second quarter demonstrated the true power of SpaceX," he said in prepared remarks. Johnsen added that "revenue growth accelerated across all our business segments and we delivered strong operating leverage, with significant margin" expansion.
