Bank of New York Mellon and Galaxy Digital have integrated institutional staking into BNY's Digital Asset Custody platform, allowing eligible clients to earn staking rewards on supported proof-of-stake assets without removing them from custody. The staking service is subject to regulatory approval.
Under the arrangement unveiled on Tuesday, Galaxy provides the staking infrastructure while serving as a design partner for BNY's broader digital asset platform. The companies did not specify which digital assets will be supported. The integration combines custody, staking, fund accounting, tax reporting, payments, and client reporting into a single institutional workflow.
BNY also launched a blockchain-based transfer agency platform supporting on-chain shareholder records for tokenized investment funds and transactions, extending its push to embed digital assets into traditional financial infrastructure. The bank was among the first major financial institutions to offer regulated custody for cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin ($BTC) and Ether ($ETH).
The partnership deepens an existing relationship between the two firms, with Galaxy now positioned as infrastructure design partner for BNY's expansion of institutional digital asset capabilities and services. The companies said the combined model is intended to simplify institutional participation in proof-of-stake networks while maintaining operational controls and asset protections provided within BNY's custody framework.
