Saylor Says Relax: $BTC Wallet ≠ Company Wallet, Strategy Still a Net Buyer 🧠

Strategy co-founder Michael Saylor pushed back on reports that the Bitcoin treasury firm had newly authorized the sale of up to $5 billion of $BTC, clarifying that the authorization was part of a BTC Monetization Program disclosed on June 29, 31 days before the company's Q2 results. The clarification follows reporting that Strategy had authorized a $BTC sale of up to $5 billion after posting a quarterly loss of $8.22 billion in the second quarter. Saylor wrote on X that the framework "permits the sale of $BTC for the stated purposes but does not compel the company to sell," and added, "No new authorization has been announced, and we expect to continue to be a net Bitcoin buyer over time."

Saylor also moved to retire a persistent talking point among Bitcoiners, stating that Strategy has never had an official "never sell" policy. "We have never had a 'never sell' policy," he wrote, correcting the framing that the Q2 earnings release marked a reversal from a prior vow. He noted that the company has disclosed since 2020 that it "may buy or sell $BTC to manage capital."

Addressing the personal side of the debate, Saylor separated his own holdings from the firm's treasury operations. "When I say 'Never Sell Your Bitcoin,' I speak as one saver to another. I have never sold mine. Not one satoshi," he wrote, adding that "Strategy is a public company, not my wallet." He closed by stating that the company's "shared conviction in Bitcoin remains unchanged."

The exchange drew skepticism from at least one vocal commentator, with crypto commentator Tony Edward replying to Saylor's post with "Sure buddy" alongside an older video clip of Saylor. Strategy's BTC Monetization Program was originally announced in June as part of its capital management framework, and the company has not indicated any change to that plan beyond Saylor's reaffirmation that it intends to remain a net buyer of $BTC over time.
