Robinhood Joins FCA's Good Books, HOOD Ticks Up Before the Bell 🇬🇧
Robinhood has secured approval from the United Kingdom's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to offer crypto-asset services in the country, with the firm's UK unit added to the regulator's list of authorized crypto-asset firms. The registration, granted on Monday, August 3, allows Robinhood's UK business to operate legally and meet the country's anti-money laundering (AML) requirements while providing crypto-related services.
The development gave HOOD shares a modest lift ahead of the opening bell, with the stock trading at $87.23 in premarket trading on August 3, up 0.77%. According to the FCA's crypto register, the UK regulator first introduced its crypto registration framework in 2020, and more than 50 companies have since been approved under the system. Robinhood joins an existing roster that includes major crypto-native firms such as Ripple and Kraken, alongside traditional financial institutions like BlackRock and BNY.
With the FCA registration now in hand, Robinhood's UK entity is positioned to roll out crypto services in line with the regulator's compliance standards. The company has not yet disclosed specific launch dates or product details for its UK crypto offering, though the approval marks a notable step in its international expansion beyond its US base.
The FCA's crypto register continues to expand as more firms seek authorization amid growing demand for digital asset services in one of Europe's largest financial markets. Robinhood's addition underscores the increasingly crowded field of established players moving to formalize their UK crypto operations under regulatory oversight.
