Saylor: We Never Said "Never Sell" BTC — Just Expect Us to Keep Hoarding It 📉➡️📈

Strategy co-founder Michael Saylor has moved to clarify reports that the Bitcoin treasury firm was preparing to offload up to $5 billion of BTC, stating that the sale authorization is not new and does not signal a change in the company's long-term accumulation strategy. In a post on X, Saylor said "Old news is being presented as new," noting that Strategy announced the authorization on June 29 as part of its capital management framework, 31 days before its Q2 results and not in response to them.

Saylor emphasized that the program permits the sale of $BTC for stated purposes but does not require it. "No new authorization has been announced, and we expect to continue to be a net Bitcoin buyer over time," he said. He added that Strategy has never had a "never sell" policy, addressing speculation that arose after reports the firm had been authorized to sell up to $5 billion worth of $BTC following an $8.22 billion quarterly loss in Q2.

The BTC Monetization Program was first unveiled in June as part of Strategy's broader capital management approach, allowing the company flexibility to manage its holdings without committing to any specific sale. Saylor reiterated that the framework is discretionary rather than mandatory, framing the recent coverage as a misinterpretation of previously disclosed information rather than a strategic pivot.

Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, has been one of the largest corporate holders of $BTC, with Saylor emerging as one of the asset's most vocal corporate advocates. Saylor's clarification sought to reinforce that the company's posture toward Bitcoin remains unchanged despite the quarter's reported losses and ongoing market volatility. He concluded by reiterating that Strategy intends to remain a net buyer of $BTC over the long term.
