One QQQ Token Did 82% of the Heavy Lifting in Tokenized Stocks' 288% July Pump 🚀

—By our Markets Desk2 min read

Tokenized stock and ETF trading hit a record $11.3 billion in July, a 288% jump that was almost entirely carried by a single Binance-linked product. Binance bStocks generated $9.41 billion, or 83.3% of the total, according to CoinDesk Data's Stablecoins & Tokenized Assets report, with one token, QQQB, tracking Invesco's QQQ ETF, responsible for $9.27 billion on its own — roughly 82% of all tokenized-equity volume for the month.

Strip out QQQB and July's market total shrinks to about $2.03 billion, roughly 30% below the implied June figure of $2.91 billion. The remaining venues saw mixed results: xStocks volume fell to $335 million from $1.55 billion, Ondo recorded $792 million and Backpack $479 million. QQQB began trading on Binance on June 30 with zero maker fees running through Aug. 31, and on July 23 Binance began counting stocks and bStocks volume at three times its traded value for users pursuing higher VIP tiers. The multiplier affects tier qualification but does not change actual trading volume.

The underlying Invesco QQQ Trust fell 6.6% in July, against a 3.2% decline in the Nasdaq Composite and a 0.1% slip in the S&P 500, and traded as much as 10.2% below its June 30 close before rebounding in the final two sessions of the month. AI and semiconductor names drove much of the volatility, with the iShares Semiconductor ETF dropping 22.1% — its worst month since December 2002 — and Micron falling 28.7%, according to MarketWatch.

Elevated activity in the QQQ ETF itself coincided with volatile AI-related trading, the FOMC meeting and a heavy slate of big-tech earnings. The tokenized wrappers add round-the-clock access, letting non-U.S. users take exposure when U.S. markets are closed and reaching users in jurisdictions where direct brokerage access to U.S. securities is limited. With one product setting the pace, July's record headline number masks a market that, by the rest of its participants' measure, actually shrank versus June.
