Senate Hits Snooze on CLARITY Act 11 Days Before Recess — Haridopolos Says "Wake Up, America

Florida Congressman Mike Haridopolos publicly reaffirmed his support for the CLARITY Act on Fox Business' Mornings with Maria, warning that Democratic delays could push digital asset leadership out of the United States and into overseas markets. "This is about making sure that American markets are the premier markets in the world," Haridopolos said during the appearance. The House Financial Services Committee member was one of 294 lawmakers who voted for the bill in July 2025, against 134 opposed, in a bipartisan showing that cleared the lower chamber earlier this year.

The Senate, however, has slowed the path forward. On July 28, Majority leadership placed the crypto market structure bill on hold to process 74 Trump administration nominations, a procedural move that has made a floor vote unlikely before the August 8 recess. The pause has frustrated supporters who argue that delays risk ceding ground to foreign hubs and capital flight abroad, and handed ammunition to opponents such as New York Attorney General Letitia James, who has voiced concerns over the legislation.

The CLARITY Act is designed to draw clearer jurisdictional lines between the SEC and the CFTC over digital assets, while offering developers, exchanges, and investors a defined regulatory framework and consumer protections. Industry backers include Coinbase, Ripple, BlackRock, and Charles Schwab, all of whom have endorsed the market structure overhaul as a path to durable rules for blockchain-based activity in the U.S.

Haridopolos's latest remarks mark one of the more pointed public critiques from House proponents since the Senate halt. With the August recess closing in and the nomination queue still occupying floor time, the timing leaves the bill's backers weighing whether to push for a pre-recess vote or regroup for a post-recess push, while opponents continue to press for changes to the measure's text.
