Satoshi's Side Quest: SBI Picks Canton Over XRPL for Its Next Institutional Adventure 🏦

SBI Holdings, the Japanese financial conglomerate and long-standing partner of Ripple, is reorganizing a wholly owned subsidiary to focus on institutional on-chain finance via the Canton Network, with operations set to take effect under a new name on June 22, 2026.

The Tokyo-based firm, headquartered in Roppongi, Minato-ku, said on Tuesday, July 28, that SBI Security Solutions Co., Ltd. will be renamed SBI Digital Practice Co., Ltd. SBI Holdings owns 100% of the subsidiary, which will become its standalone financial services unit built around Canton Network infrastructure, according to the company overview.

SBI Digital Practice will provide end-to-end support to financial institutions seeking to build compliant blockchain frameworks and advance institutional adoption. The subsidiary stated that blockchain networks are increasingly being used for financial products and transactions, and that it will work on creating the financial infrastructure and applications to support that shift.

The restructuring follows SBI's broader long-term vision for on-chain finance and marks a notable expansion beyond the XRP Ledger and RippleNet, where the firm has historically been one of Ripple's closest banking partners in Asia. By anchoring the subsidiary to Canton Network rather than continuing to build on Ripple-linked infrastructure, SBI is positioning the new unit as a separate institutional blockchain business alongside its existing Ripple-related operations.

SBI Holdings operates across financial services, asset management and biotechnology, and the formation of SBI Digital Practice adds a dedicated vehicle for serving banks and other institutions exploring distributed-ledger settlement. The move comes as global banks test private, permissioned networks like Canton for tokenized assets and interbank workflows, a trend the new subsidiary is designed to serve.
