Zimbabwe's Sandbox Welcomes Seven Fintechs — Four of Them Tokenizing Everything in Sight 🪙

By our Markets Desk1 min read

Zimbabwe's Securities and Exchange Commission (SECZ) has admitted seven financial technology projects to its regulatory sandbox, with tokenization accounting for most of the latest cohort. The approved participants are Zimbabwe Entrepreneurship Exchange, Ndarama Standard, Questview Brokers, Crowdaxe Capital, Procode Platforms, Financial Securities Exchange (FINSEC), and Colmin Resources Zimbabwe.

Four of the seven admitted projects are directly focused on tokenization, with the broader group spanning blockchain-based capital raising, crowdfunding, synthetic trading, and the tokenization of assets, securities, and infrastructure. The tokenization-heavy mix highlights continued interest in blockchain-based instruments as a route into regulated capital markets for assets that are otherwise difficult to trade.

Under the SECZ's Regulatory Sandbox Guidelines, admitted projects are permitted to undergo controlled testing under regulatory supervision. The regulator has noted that even successful completion of the sandbox testing period does not guarantee full-scale registration, and participants must still meet the SECZ's registration requirements before beginning commercial operations.

The cohort arrives as Zimbabwe continues to consult industry participants on virtual asset regulation, with the sandbox serving as one of the formal channels through which the SECZ evaluates new fintech models. No timeline for the testing period or expected graduation of the seven projects has been disclosed.
