Samsung Wallet goes stablecoin mode: Galaxy users may soon HODL their coffee money 💸
Samsung Electronics said it plans to add native stablecoin support to Samsung Wallet, putting U.S. dollar-pegged digital currencies in front of millions of Galaxy device owners and creating one of the largest consumer distribution channels for crypto to date. The announcement was made on July 22 during the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event, where the company described Samsung Wallet as a financial hub connecting payments, identity, digital assets and Galaxy services. The South Korean publication Digital Asset first reported the stablecoin plans, and Reuters confirmed the move separately while focusing on the launch of a new financial product called Galaxy Card.
Samsung product manager Lee Dinham said during the showcase that the Wallet would move beyond cash and savings. "Samsung Wallet will expand beyond cash and savings. It will embrace new forms of digital value, including stablecoins," Dinham said, adding that the move would make Samsung "one of the first major mobile brands to bring native stablecoins to a smartphone, enabling fast and trusted digital value transfers." Samsung did not disclose which stablecoins it will support, name an issuer, provide a launch date, or detail how the feature would be rolled out across the markets where Samsung Wallet operates.
The company also unveiled Samsung Galaxy Card, a financial product accessed through Samsung Wallet. Reuters reported that the card will roll out in the United States with Barclays as issuer and Visa as the payment network, extending Samsung's footprint in consumer finance. Samsung said the Wallet's financial features will be protected by Samsung Knox, its security platform, using end-to-end encryption. The card builds on the Wallet's evolution since the 2022 integration of Samsung Pay with Samsung Pass, which today stores payment cards, digital IDs, boarding passes, keys for homes and cars, and displays users' cryptocurrency holdings.
The Wallet already integrates payment cards, rewards and other services, and the addition of Galaxy Card adds another layer to Samsung's growing financial ecosystem. In October 2025, Samsung expanded its partnership with U.S. crypto exchange Coinbase, allowing Galaxy users in the United States to buy crypto directly through Samsung Wallet, an integration that initially targeted more than 75 million Galaxy users in the country with a broader rollout planned. Separately, Samsung units took a $408 million stake in Upbit operator Dunamu, according to a recent report.
