Coinbase rolls out USDC checkout for bots that never sleep, never snack, never ask for PTO 🤖

Coinbase is letting businesses accept USDC ($USDC) payments from autonomous AI agents, the company said Thursday in an X post, extending the exchange's push into machine-driven commerce. Coinbase Business users will be able to receive stablecoin payments from agents through the x402 payment standard, which Coinbase first introduced in May 2025 to enable stablecoin transfers over HTTP for AI agents, applications and APIs.

The same announcement introduced AI-powered trading tools that let users monitor orders, access live market data and execute actions based on predefined conditions, alongside a software development kit for developers building agent-driven applications. Coinbase said the products are designed to support what it described as the "agentic economy," in which AI agents can make payments, manage finances and complete other tasks on behalf of users.

The company pointed to early signals of adoption, noting that agent-generated traffic surpassed human traffic on its Base documentation pages for the first time last month. Coinbase added that the internet's existing financial infrastructure was built on what it called "one assumption: a human clicking the button," leaving businesses, developers and users without tools designed for non-human counterparties.

The rollout lands as a growing number of exchanges and payment companies position stablecoins and blockchain-based rails as core infrastructure for AI agents, an emerging use case now drawing interest from across the crypto industry. Coinbase did not disclose specific transaction volumes or additional partners tied to Thursday's release.
