Robinhood CEO's X Account Hacked to Shill $1M Memecoin Dump 🪙
Hackers took over Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev's X account on Thursday and used it to promote a fake memecoin called "Vladhood," which the attackers described as the official Robinhood Chain mascot. The post, which was later deleted, also claimed the token would be listed on the Robinhood app and added that "we believe this is another step toward bringing more attention to Robinhood Chain, which remains our primary focus for Q3 and Q4." The memecoin was created just minutes before the post appeared.
The sham token briefly hit a market capitalization of roughly $10 million before collapsing. Onchain data shows that insiders cashed out more than $1 million in profits during the pump. One version of the scam, reported by Onchain Lens, identified the promoted contract as "VLAD," while other sources labeled the token "Vladhood." Robinhood Chain's blockchain explorer has since flagged the token's contract address as a scam.
The fraudulent post attracted more than 175,000 views in less than 20 minutes before users identified it as a scam and warned others not to interact with the token. Robinhood had not confirmed the hack at the time of publication.
Robinhood has aggressively expanded its digital-asset offerings in recent months, including tokenized stocks, crypto staking, perpetual futures and the Robinhood Chain, but it has never launched a memecoin. The compromise comes as attackers increasingly shift toward phishing campaigns across the crypto industry, according to Nominis, even as the total value stolen through crypto scams has declined in recent months.
