Bitget lands in Kiwi FSPR, adds Kiwi to its passport stamps 🛂

—By our Exchanges & Companies Desk2 min read

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget has been registered as a financial services provider in New Zealand, adding to a growing list of regulatory clearances as it expands across multiple jurisdictions.

The registration places Bitget on New Zealand's Financial Service Providers Register and authorizes the platform to offer foreign currency exchange, domestic and cross-border money transfers, client asset custody, portfolio and money management, as well as the execution of financial products and foreign exchange transactions on behalf of clients. The FSPR's registry did not show Bitget's registration at the time of writing.

Alongside the registration, Bitget has enrolled in the New Zealand Insurance and Financial Services Ombudsman (IFSO) Dispute Resolution Scheme, an independent avenue for customers to resolve grievances with participating financial services companies.

According to CoinMarketCap data, Bitget ranks as the world's sixth-largest cryptocurrency exchange with $389 million in daily trading volume. The platform has also reported that perpetual futures trading volume on the exchange surpassed $70 billion.

The New Zealand registration comes against a backdrop of additional regulatory milestones. In June 2025, Bitget received approval to operate as a digital asset exchange and custodial wallet provider in Georgia, and holds authorization from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority through its affiliate Archax. The exchange is registered with Italy's Organismo Agenti e Mediatori and is listed as a virtual asset service provider in Poland, Bulgaria, Lithuania and the Czech Republic. In January, Bitget announced plans to establish European headquarters in Vienna, Austria, and appointed former Bitpanda chief legal officer and prior KuCoin EU head Oliver Stauber as CEO of Bitget EU to lead its Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation (MiCA) expansion.
