Samsung Wallet stablecoin plan turns Galaxy phones into the closest thing crypto has to a default app 📱

Samsung Electronics is preparing to add native stablecoin support to Samsung Wallet, a move that would place U.S. dollar-pegged digital currencies in front of millions of Galaxy device owners and create one of the largest consumer distribution channels for cryptocurrencies to date. The company disclosed the initiative during its Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event on July 22, describing Samsung Wallet as a financial hub that connects payments, identity, digital assets and Galaxy services. Samsung said its Wallet will evolve from a payments and savings app into a platform that incorporates digital assets, allowing users to transfer various digital assets easily and reliably while consolidating payments, rewards and digital assets into one integrated service. The South Korean publication Digital Asset first reported Samsung's stablecoin plans, with Reuters confirming the development separately.

The stablecoin integration has the potential to place dollar-pegged digital currencies in front of consumers who have never opened a crypto exchange account. By embedding the functionality inside an application already installed on Galaxy phones, Samsung would remove the need for users to download a separate crypto wallet, bringing blockchain-based payments closer to everyday use. Samsung, however, did not name which stablecoins it would support, identify an issuer, or provide a launch date, and did not outline how the feature would be rolled out across the different markets where Samsung Wallet operates.

Samsung also used Unpacked to launch the Samsung Galaxy Card, a financial product accessed through Samsung Wallet. As reported by Reuters, the card will be rolled out in the U.S. with Barclays issuing the card and Visa acting as the payment network, signaling Samsung's broader push into consumer finance. Samsung said the Wallet's financial features will be protected by Samsung Knox, its security platform, using end-to-end encryption, building on the 2022 integration of Samsung Pay with Samsung Pass.

Samsung Wallet already stores payment cards, digital IDs, boarding passes, and keys for homes and cars, and can display users' cryptocurrency holdings. The addition of stablecoins would extend that asset-display capability into native payment functionality, pending the technical and regulatory details Samsung has yet to disclose.
