Coinbase Tells Canada: One App to Rule Them All, 24/7, No Bankers Required 🇨🇦

Coinbase is pitching Canada on a future in which crypto, stocks, ETFs, prediction markets, and tokenized equities all live inside a single application, the company's Canadian chief told BNN Bloomberg this week. Eric Richmond, CEO of Coinbase Canada, framed the rollout as "phase two" of the company's Canadian business and called the proposed platform the "Everything Exchange." Richmond said Coinbase is working with local regulators on the launch and pointed to its April 2024 registration as the first international crypto exchange authorized in Canada as the foundation for that relationship. No hard launch date for the Canadian Everything Exchange has been disclosed.

The U.S. version of that product is already live. Coinbase opened stock and ETF trading to eligible American users in February 2026 and launched prediction markets in January through federally regulated operator Kalshi, which is now valued at $22 billion. According to a previous official blog post cited in the report, tokenized stocks are slated to reach non-U.S. customers this month, while the broader roadmap covers nearly 10,000 stocks and ETFs on a single platform. Tokenized stocks are blockchain-based representations of real-company shares designed to settle instantly and trade continuously.

Richmond used the interview to contrast the Everything Exchange with traditional finance, telling BNN Bloomberg that "people are starting to realize the fact that banks close at 4 p.m., or the markets close at 4 p.m., or that wires can take days to settle, or that access for high-net-worth individuals to certain products are gated for just those high-net-worth individuals." His five-word summary of the competitive dynamic: "Rising tide lifts all boats." Asked about rivals including Robinhood and incumbent Canadian brokerages, Richmond said he was not particularly concerned.

Regulatory clearance for a Canadian dollar stablecoin is the final piece Coinbase is awaiting before a full Canadian rollout. The Bank of Canada is expected to finalize stablecoin implementing regulations in 2027, according to the report. Separately, Payward, parent of crypto exchange Kraken, said Wednesday it has teamed up with global fintech GTN to expand its blockchain-based xStocks product beyond U.S. equities and outside the United States for the first time, broadening the tokenized-equities category Coinbase is also preparing to enter.
