Base enters final paperwork huddle as Pollak teases imminent tokenized-equity launch
Base is in the final stages of preparing a 1:1-backed tokenized equities launch, with rollout described as "imminent" by Jesse Pollak, creator of Coinbase's Ethereum layer-2 network. Responding to a Tuesday X post from Garrett Skrovina, head of fintech at Lazer Technologies, Pollak wrote: "Imminent — dotting i's and crossing t's, but should be very soon."
Pollak pointed to Robinhood Chain, a recently launched Ethereum layer-2 network, as the reference point for bringing tokenized equities into an EVM environment. "Robinhood Chain got tokenized equities in an EVM environment right," Pollak wrote, framing Base's offering as catching up rather than setting the pace.
The launch marks a continuation of Base's strategic pivot toward financial applications after an earlier focus on social products. Pollak has publicly said Base made a "wrong bet" by prioritizing creator, content and messaging apps and has outlined the network's current priorities as trading, payments, AI agents and tokenized assets.
Coinbase launched Base in 2023 as an Ethereum layer-2 network, and the equities move extends its tokenized-asset push. Separately, Bernstein recently raised its price target on Robinhood, citing tokenization and prediction markets as key growth drivers. Pollak's remarks did not include a specific launch date or a list of underlying equities eligible at launch.
