Japan's Truckers About to Get Paid in JPYC—Logistics Firm Puts Yen Stablecoin in the Fast Lane 🚛
AZ-COM Maruwa Holdings, a major Japanese logistics company, plans to adopt the JPYC stablecoin to make payments to roughly 2,300 business partners, in what is expected to be the first large-scale corporate use of the yen-denominated JPYC stablecoin in Japan. According to a report from Nikkei, the company intends to use the stablecoin to pay fees and compensation to individual contractors who handle transportation, including truck drivers.
The move is designed to enable faster and more frequent payouts, as JPYC transactions do not carry transfer fees. AZ-COM Maruwa is also considering a partnership with JPYC Inc. alongside an investment of more than 1 billion Japanese yen ($6.2 million) into the issuer.
AZ-COM Maruwa is a mid-sized Japanese logistics company and counts Amazon Japan among its major customers. The deployment would mark a notable expansion of JPYC beyond earlier pilot programs, including a planned test with Sony Bank to allow customers to instantly purchase yen stablecoins from their bank accounts.
"We will continue to advance the integration of logistics and commercial payment flows with JPYC," said Noritaka Okabe, founder and CEO of JPYC Inc. The comments were included in reporting on the planned rollout and underscore JPYC Inc.'s stated focus on embedding its stablecoin into everyday corporate payment infrastructure in Japan.
