XRP Outlasts Every Altcoin's Top-10 Eraβ13 Years and Still on the Leaderboard π
Ripple's $XRP is the only cryptocurrency besides Bitcoin to remain inside the industry's top 10 by market capitalization every year since 2014, according to a CoinGecko report covering annual market-cap snapshots from 2014 to 2026. The 13-year streak sets $XRP apart from former top-10 fixtures such as Peercoin, Namecoin, NXT, Dash, EOS, and Litecoin, each of which spent years among the largest assets before slipping out of the elite tier.
The token held its position through the 2018 bear market, the COVID-19 crash, the Terra collapse, the FTX bankruptcy, and Ripple's years-long legal battle with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. During the SEC dispute, $XRP was delisted from numerous exchanges and dropped sharply, yet it returned to the top 10 and remained there.
Ripple's token marked the one-year anniversary of its all-time high of $3.65 last July. It has fallen roughly 70% since that peak.
CoinGecko noted that bitcoin's share of total crypto market capitalization stood at about 87% in 2014 and is now under 57% on its platform. Stablecoins have become a permanent presence in the top 10 and top 20, while exchange tokens such as BNB now sit alongside established layer-1 networks.
This year also produced a separate milestone when Hyperliquid's HYPE became only the second decentralized finance project to enter the top 10, overtaking Dogecoin in the process.
