BNB Chain Outlines Sub-Second L1 Vision for AI Agents and Quantum Threats ðŸ§
BNB Chain developers unveiled plans on Wednesday for a new layer-1 blockchain engineered for high-frequency AI-driven trading, detailing the network in its H2 2026 technical roadmap. The new chain will operate alongside the existing BNB Smart Chain rather than replace it, with a testnet targeted by the end of 2026 and a mainnet launch planned for early 2027. "Six months ago, BNB Chain set three priorities for BSC: speed, throughput, and protocol stability," the developers wrote. "This roadmap opens with the receipts and closes with what comes next—a second half focused on doubling performance again, and an architecture designed for the decade ahead."
The developers outlined throughput targets of more than 100,000 transactions per second, sub-50-millisecond transaction confirmation, and block finalization under one second, achieved through parallel transaction processing and storage optimizations. Upgrades to BNB Smart Chain during the first half of 2026 reduced block intervals from 750 milliseconds to 450 milliseconds and lifted benchmark throughput from roughly 2,800 transactions per second to 5,200. Central to the new network is TxStream, a system that bypasses the public mempool by routing transactions directly to block leaders, aiming to cut latency and limit front-running opportunities. A second component, PriorityLane, will reserve block space for liquidations, bridges, and oracle updates.
Beyond execution speed, the team disclosed ongoing quantum-security research that would use account abstraction to let wallets adopt post-quantum protections without changing addresses. "There's no finish line here. Quantum computing will keep evolving, and so will our testing and research," the developers wrote. "The point is that when it matures, BNB Chain's infrastructure is already prepared." BNB Chain did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Decrypt.
BNB ($BNB) traded around $561 in the hours after the announcement, with the hourly RSI sitting near 30 and the MACD below the signal line. Aggregated Open Interest hovered around $536 million—below the recent peak—while funding remained positive at 0.0029, indicating longs were present but not overheated. CryptoQuant's Futures Average Order Size data showed BNB futures activity tilting toward larger whale orders, suggesting the new infrastructure is being tailored for markets where speed-sensitive participants already dominate.
