Binance Hits French Wall: No MiCA, No Trading, Just €2M Users Cashing Out 🧀

Binance has suspended crypto trading services in France after failing to secure a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) license from French regulators, leaving its roughly 2 million users in the country able only to withdraw their assets. The halt follows a separate regulatory roadblock in Greece, where Binance also faced license-related issues, and extends to several other European Union jurisdictions where the exchange has paused offerings. User funds remain safe, according to the company.

The world's largest crypto exchange had been in discussions with France's financial regulator, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), to obtain the EU-wide MiCA authorization required to operate across the bloc. The failure to secure the license was reported by BFM Business. Before the suspension, Binance offered French users spot, futures, margin, and custody services.

The French exit coincides with sustained capital flight from the platform. Binance recorded $1.6 billion in net outflows over the past month, according to on-chain data referenced in industry reporting. The combination of regulatory denials and large-scale withdrawals marks a sharper turn for the exchange in Europe, where uniform MiCA rules have set a new compliance baseline for crypto service providers.

Under MiCA, which took full effect across the EU, firms offering crypto services must obtain authorization in a member state to passport services into others. Binance's inability to land the French license means it cannot rely on the country as a hub for EU-wide operations, forcing a pullback in markets that had previously been served through local entities or partners.

The exchange has not stated a timeline for resuming crypto trading in France, and the AMF has not publicly commented on the suspension beyond the license application process. French users retain the ability to withdraw fiat and crypto balances, while new sign-ups and product offerings remain paused.
