Hoskinson Promises 60x Mojo for Cardano, Says It Will Finally Keep Up With XRP 🐢➡️🐇

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson said the upcoming Ouroboros Leios upgrade will multiply the network's internal throughput by up to 60 times, putting it on equal performance footing with the XRP Ledger. "Leios will be a 60x in terms of throughput inside the system, so we're good, we're as performant as XRP, and we still kept our principles," Hoskinson said during an interview on "The Breakdown podcast" with David Gokhshtein. The XRPL is known for settlement times of three to five seconds and a maximum capacity of 1,500 transactions per second, and in March 2026 it recorded a peak of roughly 120 TPS with about 650 operations.

Hoskinson framed the upgrade as a response to the blockchain trilemma, arguing Cardano can scale without sacrificing decentralization or security. The public Leios testnet, named Musashi Dojo, went live on June 23, 2026, marking the protocol's first deployment in a public network environment. Mainnet rollout is targeted for before the end of the year.

In the same conversation, Hoskinson pushed back against content creator Big Pey, who had criticized Midnight City as wasteful spending within the ecosystem. "I've just lost all respect for you as an entrepreneur," Hoskinson wrote on X on July 2, 2026. "You clearly have no clue how adoption or consumer experiences work. Save this tweet and come back in a year to apologize." He added that Midnight City is one of the most important applications on Midnight and would be central to the network's consumer strategy.
