XRPL Validators Smell Something "Standard": A 70,000 XRP Bait-and-Switch 🚩
Validators on the XRP Ledger have flagged a suspicious account impersonating the Open USD (OUSD) stablecoin, warning users it exhibits hallmarks of a classic crypto scam. The alarm was raised by GrimmReaper, a validator operator on the XRPL, who shared a screenshot from the Bithomp transaction-monitoring tool showing a newly activated issuer using the "Open Standard" name. "We might have our answer about OUSD being on the xrpl if this is legit. What do you guys think, Krippenreiter and Vet?" the operator wrote on X.
The flagged account is linked to the domain joinopenstandard.netlify.app and displays promotional banners offering "Earn 12% on XRP" and "Play Slots and win 70,000 XRP." XRPL community members identified these advertised rewards as typical lures used by fraudulent schemes to attract unwary participants. Validator operators noted that the account's behavior and the associated offers were inconsistent with legitimate issuance activity on the network, prompting immediate scrutiny.
The concern has been amplified by the fact that Ripple is a member of the consortium behind the genuine Open USD stablecoin initiative, a connection that scammers could exploit to lend false credibility to the XRPL-based imitation. Validators have urged users to verify the official issuer details through XRPL explorers and to avoid interacting with unfamiliar accounts promising outsized returns. The Open Standard account remains visible on the ledger, with the community monitoring its activity for further confirmation of fraudulent intent.
