Ripple Gets Luxembourg's Nod, Now Holds the EU's Golden Ticket Before MiCA Clock Strikes 🏛️

Ripple has secured preliminary approval for a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license from Luxembourg's financial regulator, the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), the company confirmed on June 23. The "Green Light Letter" positions Ripple for full compliance with the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework days before the July 1 transitional deadline, when EU member states begin fully applying the rules. Once finalized, the license will allow Ripple to offer regulated crypto services to banks, fintechs and corporates across all 30 countries of the European Economic Area (EEA) through a single regulatory passport.

The CASP approval builds on Ripple's existing Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license in Luxembourg, issued in February 2026, which already permits regulated cross-border payments and electronic money services across the EEA. Combined, the two authorizations enable Ripple to deliver a "full crypto asset and stablecoins payments infrastructure" through a single integration for the first time, according to the company's statement. The setup lets European banks, fintechs and corporates collect, exchange, and pay out via one connection.

The news arrives as competition intensifies among crypto firms racing to secure MiCA authorization before the July 1 cutoff. Major exchanges, including Binance, remain awaiting approval under the new regime, with media reports indicating Greek regulators may be preparing to deny Binance's application. Cointelegraph said it reached out to the CSSF but did not receive an immediate response. Related reporting from CryptoQuant notes EUR trading accounts for 1% of Binance spot volume.

Ripple currently holds more than 75 regulatory licenses globally, including a UK license from the Financial Conduct Authority received in January 2026. The company framed Europe as a strategic growth market. "MiCA has helped to unlock a new wave of institutional digital assets adoption, and we are seeing that demand accelerate across the region," said Cassie Craddock, managing director of the UK and Europe at Ripple. Separately, the price of $XRP moved slightly higher following the announcement, while futures open interest on Binance rose during the same window.
