House CLARITY Hearing Lands on July 17, Quietly Kicking the July 4 Crypto Bill Hype Down the Road 🏛️

The U.S. House Financial Services Committee has scheduled a hearing on the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act for July 17, shifting the legislative timeline past the July 4 target that crypto advocates had been pushing for. The session, titled "Building the Future of Finance: How the CLARITY Act Unlocks Innovation," will be held by the House Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Artificial Intelligence, chaired by Rep. Bryan Steil. Other subcommittee members listed include Rep. Tom Emmer, Rep. Byron Donalds, and Rep. John Rose.

The hearing follows lobbying from crypto industry groups urging lawmakers to advance digital asset legislation before the July 4 recess. Trump's crypto advisor Patrick Witt and Senator Bill Hagerty had publicly suggested the bill could be signed into law by July 4, a timeline now in question following the committee's scheduling decision. The CLARITY Act, if enacted, would establish clearer rules for digital asset markets and define the inter-agency responsibilities for regulating the sector. Industry participants have argued that codified market structure rules could reduce regulatory uncertainty and support innovation in the United States.

The July 17 date indicates the bill is advancing through committee but signals that passage before the Independence Day recess is unlikely. Lawmakers have not yet announced witness lists or markup dates for the measure.
