Ripple Goes EU-ropean: Luxembourg Green Light Makes XRP MiCA-Ready 🌍
Ripple has secured a preliminary Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license in Luxembourg, positioning the crypto payments infrastructure firm for full compliance with the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework ahead of the July 1 transition deadline. The approval, granted via a "Green Light Letter" from Luxembourg's financial regulator CSSF and announced on June 23, allows Ripple to scale its crypto services to financial institutions and businesses across the 30 countries of the European Economic Area.
The Luxembourg CASP license combines with Ripple's existing electronic money institution (EMI) license in the country, enabling European banks, fintechs, and corporates to collect, exchange, and pay out through a single integration. Ripple said the dual licensing gives institutions full access to its cryptoasset and stablecoins payments infrastructure for the first time. The company has previously secured other European regulatory approvals, though specifics were not detailed in the announcement.
$XRP, Ripple's native token, saw a slight price uptick following the news, accompanied by a rise in futures open interest on Binance. Market data from CoinGape noted the movement but did not attribute a specific cause beyond the license announcement.
Ripple stated the Luxembourg license marks a key step in its European expansion strategy, allowing the firm to onboard clients under a unified regulatory regime rather than navigating country-by-country approvals. The MiCA regulation, which takes full effect July 1, sets harmonized rules for crypto-asset issuers and service providers across the EU.
CSSF, Luxembourg's Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier, is among Europe's more active issuers of crypto-related licenses, and the Grand Duchy has positioned itself as a hub for digital asset firms seeking EU market access. Ripple's Green Light Letter indicates preliminary approval but typically requires the firm to meet additional conditions before receiving a full license.
