MoneyGram Joins Solana as a Validator, Finally Validating Its 5-Year Blockchain Glow-Up 🚀

—By our Altcoins & Tokens Desk2 min read

Global payments giant MoneyGram has become an active validator on the Solana network, the company announced on 22 June, deepening its footprint in blockchain-based cross-border payments. The move makes Solana the third blockchain where MoneyGram operates an official validator, alongside Tempo and the Midnight Network.

As a validator, MoneyGram will help process transactions, stake SOL tokens, and support the network's security. The company also joined the Solana Developer Platform (SDP), gaining access to tools and infrastructure used by developers and financial institutions building products on the network.

Anthony Soohoo, CEO and chairman of MoneyGram, framed the move as a contribution to the broader payments ecosystem. "As blockchain infrastructure becomes increasingly important to global payments, we believe institutions that rely on these networks should also contribute to their security, resilience, and long-term development," Soohoo said, adding that operating a validator allows the company to contribute directly to the strength of the networks it depends on.

The validator role extends MoneyGram's more than five years of work building blockchain-based payment solutions, an effort that has spanned stablecoin partnerships, on-chain settlement pilots, and integrations with crypto exchanges. By running its own validator, the company takes a direct operational role in securing the network rather than relying solely on third-party infrastructure.

MoneyGram's expansion on Solana comes as the network has pushed deeper into payments-focused use cases, including stablecoin transfers and developer tooling aimed at financial institutions. The SDP membership places MoneyGram alongside banks, fintechs, and payment processors building products on the chain, positioning the remittance firm to deploy new services as the platform matures.
