Iran Yanks Hormuz Plug, $BTC Shrugs Like It's Seen This Episode Before 🛢️

Iran has shut the Strait of Hormuz a second time, accusing Israel of breaching the ceasefire memorandum of understanding signed earlier this week with the United States, according to state-affiliated outlet Tasnim. Iran's joint top military command said the closure was triggered by what it described as U.S. failure to implement the first clause of the agreement, along with continuous Israeli violations of the ceasefire with Lebanon.

The move came less than a day after Israel and Hezbollah reached a ceasefire deal, an agreement that had been viewed as supportive of the broader U.S.-Iran peace framework both sides signed earlier this week. The closure also followed reports that Israel carried out strikes in South Lebanon targeting Hezbollah positions, despite the renewed truce. Those tensions had already delayed scheduled talks in Switzerland between the United States and Iran, which were originally set for the prior day.

Roughly 20% of the world's seaborne oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz. The corridor has been at the center of a months-long standoff between Tehran and Washington, with the latest closure marking the second such incident after a brief reopening earlier in the week.

Bitcoin, as it often does during geopolitical churn, responded with a near-shrug. The leading cryptocurrency was trading around $63,400, down less than 1% over the previous 24 hours, according to TradingView data. Spot volumes stayed orderly and the broader market structure showed no signs of acute stress.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance said the administration is monitoring the situation closely and remains in contact with regional partners, while reiterating that Washington's diplomatic posture has not changed. Market participants will be watching the next 48 hours closely to see whether the passage reopens or whether the ceasefire framework absorbs the latest shock.
