Grayscale Research said Aave's AAVE token is undervalued, estimating a fair value of $80 to $100 against a recent spot price near $77.23, based on a discounted cash flow analysis. The asset manager set a base-case one-year price target of $179.11, with a bear case of $90.91 and a bull case of $270.57. AAVE trades with a market cap of approximately $1.17 billion, just below Grayscale's lower fair-value estimate, placing the base-case projection at a roughly 132% premium to current levels.
The report characterized Aave as a permissionless on-chain bank that generates recurring revenue, projecting roughly $60 million in protocol revenue in 2026. "Aave's revenue has increasingly been anchored by stablecoin activity rather than volatile crypto assets, providing a more durable earnings base as the protocol scales," Grayscale wrote. Applying fintech multiples of 20x to 25x yields a fair-value market cap of $1.2 billion to $1.5 billion, implying a token price of $80 to $100.
Grayscale's base case rests on five assumptions: exponential growth in stablecoin and major Horizon partnerships, the return of previously withdrawn deposits, the Aave App capturing mainstream users, and institutions building on the V4 architecture to deepen liquidity. Aave founder Stani Kulechov has separately presented a new risk framework to assess, monitor, and manage risk across the protocol. The Aave DAO also funds expansion through a treasury that peaked above $360 million, primarily from protocol revenue and AAVE appreciation, while Aave V4 has surpassed $50 million in active borrows, up 140% over the prior month.
The targets arrive after April's Kelp DAO rsETH exploit, which was not a direct attack on Aave but caused downstream market disruption, a steep drop in total deposits, and a governance review that has paused token buybacks. Total value locked has fallen from $45 billion in 2025 to $13.043 billion at the time of publishing. Grayscale said Aave's transparent handling of the crisis reinforced its institutional credibility, and the firm also flagged Hyperliquid, Uniswap, Sky, and Maple as offering strong relative value.
