BlackRock's BITA Goes Live: Bitcoin's Yield Chapter Gets a Ticker 🪙

—By our Markets Desk2 min read

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has accepted the notice of effectiveness for BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Premium Income ETF, clearing the way for the fund to begin trading under the BITA ticker symbol as early as Thursday. The notice went into effect Monday, June 15, after BlackRock filed the document on Friday, June 12, according to public filings.

The approval follows BlackRock's submission of a Form 8-A for the same product on Friday, a step widely viewed as a near-term launch signal. Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas wrote on X that the fund is "much anticipated follow up to $IBIT the fastest growing etf of all time by miles," adding that trading is "prob Thursday give or take a day." The iShares Bitcoin Trust ($IBIT) is BlackRock's spot Bitcoin ETF launched in early 2024.

According to the fund's final prospectus, BITA will carry an annual sponsor fee, with details outlined in the regulatory filing. The product is structured to generate income through options strategies on Bitcoin futures, distinguishing it from spot Bitcoin ETFs that simply track the underlying asset's price.

The launch would expand BlackRock's footprint in the crypto ETF market, building on the rapid growth of $IBIT, which since its debut has become one of the largest ETFs by assets under management across all categories. BITA's effectiveness filing caps a multi-week preparation process that included trust registration, prospectus finalization, and exchange listing coordination.

Industry observers have noted that the income-focused structure may appeal to a different investor base than $IBIT, which tracks Bitcoin's spot price. The BITA fund's options-based approach is designed to distribute yield to shareholders, potentially attracting yield-seeking allocators who have so far remained on the sidelines of spot crypto products.
