ICP Tanks 10% Daily: Is Coinbase the Culprit?

—By our Markets Desk3 min read

$ICP found itself at the bottom of today's crypto leaderboard—if you can call a 10% decline a ranking worth celebrating. Among the top 100 by market cap, it had the unenviable title of worst performer. Still, some technical signals suggest this might be nothing more than a brief dip before another leg up.

Just hours ago, the asset sank to a one-week low under $3, dragging its market capitalization down to around $1.6 billion.

To be fair, $ICP wasn't alone in its misery. The broader crypto market caught a case of the blues, with Bitcoin (BTC) slipping below $80,000 and altcoins like Worldcoin (WLD), Cronos (CRO), Arbitrum (ARB), and Aptos (APT) all taking hits in the 7-8% range over the past day.

Coinbase may have added a little extra weight to the fall. The exchange recently delisted six non-USD trading pairs, including $ICP/USDT and $ICP/GBP. When one of the industry's biggest names trims support for a token, liquidity tends to evaporate, making it trickier for traders to get in or out. Less liquidity usually means lower volume and shakier confidence, particularly when markets are already wobbling.

That said, Coinbase didn't pull $ICP entirely off the platform. If it had, the damage would likely have been far sharper. $ICP still trades on several major exchanges, including Binance, Bybit, Bitget, OKX, and others—plenty of exits still open for those who want them.

Interestingly, two months ago, the leading South Korean exchange Upbit did the opposite, adding $ICP support. That news sparked a 16% jump. Sometimes exchanges move markets; this time Coinbase just moved in the other direction.

On the technical side, $ICP's Relative Strength Index (RSI) is hovering around 28—below the 30 level that typically signals an asset has fallen too far, too fast, potentially setting the stage for a bounce. The RSI scales from 0 to 100, with readings under 30 often considered oversold territory. For context, readings under 70 can flag an upcoming correction.

Analysts are keeping an eye on the chart. Kong Trading pointed out that nearly half of $ICP's supply sits locked in staking, with participants committed for years. "That's not weak conviction," they noted. "Hard to ignore when supply keeps tightening like this."

JAVON MARKS recently highlighted a Falling Wedge pattern forming in the price action, suggesting the coin is showing signs of strength. A breakout from this formation could drive a 300% move above $10—"may act as the start of an even larger reversal," they noted.
